Broadening holds (base case). Import prices behave at 8:30, the 10-year holds near 5.10%: participation keeps broadening, S&P pushes toward 7,805 and the 7,818.93 record, and energy pullbacks remain the vehicle.
Second inflation leg. A hot import-price print sends the 10-year back above 5.20% and the S&P loses 7,700: the $758 SPY target reactivates and AI credit gaps wider. Cash over dip-buying.
Opex pin. Monthly expiration with large open interest at SPY $770 and $780: expect gravitational trade around those strikes into the close, whatever the morning does.

Earnings before the open: Travelers (est $7.01), Truist ($1.17), M&T Bank ($4.98), Citizens ($1.38), Regions ($0.67). State Street already out: EPS $3.69 vs $3.68 expected, revenue about $4.00B vs $4.03B. Nothing notable verified after the close.
Overnight: Chair Warsh, at the IMF meetings in Bangkok (11:30 PM ET Thu), said he does not prejudge meetings; reported hold odds for Oct 28 firmed to 85%.
The PPI shock that wasn't. September PPI rose 1.3% on the month against +0.5% expected, +6.3% year over year, the largest headline rise in over four years; core rose 0.7% on the month, +5.0% on the year. One day after a hot CPI, that should have extended the selloff. Instead the 10-year fell about 10bp to roughly 5.09%, its biggest one-day retreat in over a year. The market is treating the inflation spike as gasoline and tariffs passing through, not as a spiral. That read can change; it is the read that matters today.
The consumer, in detail. Retail sales beat on the headline, +0.8% against +0.3% expected, but the control group that feeds GDP rose just 0.1% against +0.3%. Jobless claims printed 199k against 200k expected: labor steady. Empire State manufacturing smashed expectations at +25.5 (consensus +10.25); Philly Fed missed at 20.9 (consensus 28.4).
Breadth broadening. Roughly seven in ten S&P 500 members advanced Thursday and equal-weight beat cap-weight by more than a point (+1.4% vs +0.33%). The Dow rose 1.08%, its best relative day of the week, and small caps added 1.38%. This is what rotation looks like when it is healthy rather than fearful.
AI credit: worse, and contained. CoreWeave's 5-year CDS blew through 1,100bp Thursday, with prints toward a record near 1,200bp; its 2031 bonds touched a 16% yield intraday before settling near 14%. Oracle's CDS set a record at 288bp, on a day its stock rose 3.0%: equity shrugs where credit screams, and the desk watches credit. High-yield spreads widened to 324bp, the most since March. And yet: a $5B AI loan from Volta priced at 95 cents, and CoreWeave stock is down only 2.5% pre-market. The credit market is charging the complex distressed prices while still funding it. Both halves of that sentence matter.
Asia took the other side. Nikkei +1.39% to 65,324 and KOSPI +2.05% to 5,668 on Friday after Thursday's rout; Shanghai +0.2%, Hang Seng modestly higher in snapshot data. European futures point up about 0.7%. The dollar fell 0.5% Thursday to about 102 and is tracking its first weekly decline in five weeks.
Oil split. WTI jumped 3.03% to $97.97 on an 8.6 million barrel EIA draw against expectations of a build; Brent was essentially flat at $105.92. Gold added 1.5% to $4,147.70 (futures). Energy stocks did not follow crude Thursday (XLE was the worst sector, see Sectors), a divergence worth watching into next week.
| S&P COMPOSITE 1500, OCT 15 CLOSE | READING |
|---|---|
| Above 50-day average | 35.67% |
| Above 200-day average | 48.73% |
| Above 20-day average | 57.53% |
| Combined breadth score (source label) | 47.02%, Neutral |
The split is the story: short-term breadth repaired fast Thursday (57.53% above the 20-day) while the 50-day reading (35.67%) still shows the week's damage. Advance/decline counts, new highs/lows, and the put/call ratio for Oct 15 were not available from a dated source at publish time, so they are not printed. They join this block when the feed is proven, not before.

The new public ledger opened with yesterday's issue. Its first resolutions are in today's Setups, in the open.
| GAINERS | DAY | WHY |
|---|---|---|
| TRU TransUnion | +10.73% | Credit bureaus led the index; data-services strength, expanded Bankrate partnership |
| IP Intl Paper | +7.57% | Reports it may sell its EMEA packaging business instead of a spinoff |
| INTU Intuit | +6.36% | Acquiring AI-native revenue platform Sequence |
| CSGP CoStar | +6.28% | Sharp rebound in a heavily beaten-down name; no company catalyst |
| NOW ServiceNow | +6.14% | AI Passport launch, Decagon deal denial, and two target raises (Mizuho to $170, TD Cowen to $165). Software was the rotation's surprise leg |
Just outside the five: Nike +5.21%, which led the Dow.
| LOSERS | DAY | WHY |
|---|---|---|
| HPE | -7.10% | AI server names at the center of the capex and credit unwind; Barclays downgrade this week |
| DELL | -6.80% | Same AI hardware deleveraging |
| ANET Arista | -5.04% | AI networking caught in the unwind |
| COHR Coherent | -4.83% | Optical and datacenter names on AI funding concerns |
| TER Teradyne | -4.52% | Semi test down with the complex; SOX fell a seventh straight session |
Outside the index, the day's real casualty: FMC, -30.53% to $5.62, after slashing its Q3 revenue guide to $65-125M from $840-900M and guiding to an EBITDA loss. Corteva fell in sympathy.

| AAPL | $342.00 | -0.28% | $325.08 | $292.11 | -1.8% | 60.6 | Above both | Nov 2 |
| MSFT | $539.44 | +1.08% | $504.94 | $435.04 | -2.6% | 64.9 | Above both | Oct 28 |
| NVDA | $217.23 | -1.84% | $223.17 | $202.84 | -10.7% | 40.2 | Below 50-day | Nov 17 |
| GOOGL | $349.22 | +0.45% | $344.92 | $340.77 | -14.5% | 52.8 | Above both, barely | Oct 28 |

| META | $736.72 | -0.11% | $652.85 | $631.76 | -5.5% | 57.9 | Above both | Oct 21 |
| TSLA | $362.44 | -1.29% | $358.77 | $388.49 | -27.3% | 46.8 | Below 200-day | Oct 21 |
| PLTR | $200.50 | -0.23% | $181.97 | $152.62 | -5.8% | 62.6 | Above both | Nov 2 |
| BB | $8.70 | +5.71% | ~$8.38 | ~$7.91 | -36.0% | n/a | Above both | Dec 17 |
The table in one breath: AAPL, MSFT, META, and PLTR sit above both averages with RSIs from the high 50s to mid 60s, strong and not stretched. NVDA is the laggard (below its 50-day, RSI 40, no base yet), TSLA the structural weakling (below its 200-day, 27% off its high, into an Oct 21 print). BB bounced 5.71% but remains 36% below its high: a bounce, not a trend change. Averages as of the Oct 15 close (Finnhub quotes; Mercatus and Blockchain.News technicals). BB's averages and 52-week high come from MarketBeat NYSE data at lower confidence, and its Oct 15 RSI was not available from a dated source, so none is printed.
| INDEX | LAST | SUPPORT | RESISTANCE | THE READ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S&P 500 | 7,744.06 | 7,700 (held Thu), then 7,600 | 7,805, then the 7,818.93 record close | Thursday's hold at 7,700 plus a rally on terrible inflation data is the strongest tape tell in two weeks. The record is about 1% overhead. |
| SPY | $771.79 | $769 range low; 50-day $768.04 | $779.09, then $782 | Closed back inside the box after an intraday pierce to $764.43: the range low failed intraday and held on the close, twice now. A close below $769 targets $758. Opex pins at $770 and $780 can distort today's close; judge any break on Monday, not on the pin. |
| QQQ | $728.00 | 50-day $725.14 | 52-week high near $762 | Closed -0.13% after an intraday dip to $715.44, hugging the 50-day area ($725 to $727 by source) while the Dow ran. Growth is still the funding source for the rotation; a close under the 50-day extends it. |
| 10-yr yield | ~5.09% | 2-yr 4.77%; 2s10s +33 bp | The yield fell on a hot PPI. Sustained under 5.20% keeps the broadening alive; a close back above 5.30% ends it. | |
| SECTOR (SPDR) | OCT 15 | 5-DAY | 1-MONTH |
|---|---|---|---|
| Health Care (XLV) | +1.86% | +4.96% | +5.61% |

| Financials (XLF) | +1.38% | +2.83% | -1.18% |
| Real Estate (XLRE) | +1.21% | +3.50% | -1.92% |
| Cons. Staples (XLP) | +0.72% | +6.10% | +4.02% |
| Industrials (XLI) | +0.51% | +0.03% | -0.49% |
| Utilities (XLU) | -0.17% | +1.22% | +0.80% |
| Technology (XLK) | -0.65% | -6.06% | +2.86% |
| Energy (XLE) | -1.58% | +5.05% | +3.95% |
Five-day returns tell the week's story cleanly: staples +6.10%, energy +5.05%, healthcare +4.96% at the top; technology -6.06% alone at the bottom. Thursday broadened the bid (discretionary and materials joined) without rescuing tech. That is rotation maturing, not ending.
No fresh sheet today; the morning belongs to the ledger. Thursday's tape tested all four of yesterday's conditional setups. Three triggered and stay live with unchanged stops and targets. One never triggered and is closed out honestly, targets and all. Risk stays near 1% per idea.
Thursday: open $222.82, low $218.05, close $219.32 (-1.23%). The low pierced the zone bottom by $0.75 and recovered, so the retest filled and the close sits inside the zone. The stop was never threatened. Invalidation: close below $213.70
Thursday: open $156.39, low $156.02, close $157.37 (+2.49%). The low never came within $3.52 of the zone top, so the trade never triggered. Price then ran through both targets, closing above T1 with a high of $160.51 above T2, and printed a new 52-week high. The idea was right and unusable, and the ledger scores it exactly that way: no fill, no win. Chasing it now at $157 is a different trade with no published stop, and this page does not bless it.
Thursday: open $346.95, high $347.85, low $341.60, close $342.00 (-0.28%). The day's range covered the zone, so the retest filled; the close slipped $0.50 under the zone bottom with the low $4.10 above the stop. Weakest posture of the three live names. Earnings Nov 2: pre-earnings swing only. Invalidation: close below $337.50
Thursday: open $481.20 (inside the zone, so it filled at the open), high $481.55, low $469.07, close $476.92 (-1.65%). The low held seven cents above the stop. Still live below the zone, reduced size as published. After Thursday, treat any intraday break of $469.07 as the early warning. Invalidation: close below $469
The public ledger, day two. Published Oct 15: 4 setups. Triggered and open: 3 (CVX, AAPL, MPC). Expired without a fill: 1 (GILD; targets surpassed unfilled, and an unfilled target is not a win). Resolved: 0. That is the whole ledger, in the open, in the Oct 15 issue where the calls were made.
The engine's audited record (audit date Oct 2, 2026): win rate 61.9% across 663 resolved patterns (403 wins, 248 losses), expectancy +0.08R, average win +2.36%. Audit aggregates carry their audit date. The new daily ledger builds from Oct 15 forward, one issue at a time, and the Saturday edition resolves the full week.
| FIRM | TICKER | ACTION |
|---|---|---|
| Barclays | HPE | Downgrade to equal weight; target $83 to $77 |
| Mizuho | VRT | Target $300 to $280; outperform maintained |
| RBC Capital | LHX | Target $310 to $265; sector perform |
| Oppenheimer | CAT | Target $1,118 to $1,009; outperform maintained |
| KBW | STT | Target raised to $230; outperform, after the Q3 print |
| Truist | STT | Target cut to $171; hold, on the same print. The widest bull/bear split of the morning |
| Citizens JMP | UPST | Target $20 to $18; market underperform |
| Susquehanna | STEM | Target $7.50 to $4.50; neutral |
| Barclays | TROW | Target $103 to $102; underweight |
| H.C. Wainwright | ANGO | Target $19 to $18; buy maintained |
The pattern: target cuts clustered in AI-adjacent hardware (HPE, VRT) and rate-sensitive names, while the only raise of size followed an actual earnings print (STT). Analysts are marking the unwind, not calling its end.
| NAME | WHY IT IS ONLY A WATCH |
|---|---|
| TRU +10.73% Thu | Vertical day on bureau strength. Any entry today chases a one-day candle. |
| NOW +6.14% Thu | Software's surprise leg, with real catalysts. Momentum genuine, entry extended. |
| IP +7.57% Thu | Driven by reports of an EMEA packaging sale: event risk in both directions. |
| XLE vs crude | Crude rose 3.03% Thursday and energy stocks fell 1.58%. If the divergence persists, the live energy setups carry headline risk. |
| Semis (SOX) | Seventh straight down day. No base, no setup; a falling-knife watch, not a buy. |
| BB $8.70 | +5.71% bounce inside a 36% drawdown from its high. A trend change needs the 50-day to hold as support, not one green day. |
| NAME | DATE | NOTE |
|---|---|---|
| AAPL (live setup) | Nov 2 | Outside the 5-day window; the swing horizon ends before the print by design. |
| META | Oct 21, after close | Not a setup, but a gap either way moves the whole AI complex. |
| TSLA | Oct 21, after close | The table's weakest chart meets its loudest report. |
| PM | Oct 21 | Was on yesterday's watch list; inside the 5-day window now. |
| Banks | Today, pre-open | TRV, TFC, MTB, CFG, RF report; STT is out (EPS $3.69 vs $3.68) with analysts split: KBW target $230, Truist $171. |
