Bounce broadens (the repair case). Housing starts hold near consensus, the S&P closes above its 50-day area near 7,705, advancers finally lead, and Netflix and SpaceX tonight do not blow up the complex: Monday becomes the first day of a repair, and the pullback setups and signals get their follow-through.
Bounce fails (Seoul's case). US chips follow the KOSPI down, SPY cannot retake its 50-day area ($768.04) and QQQ stays under $725 to $727: the unwind resumes, the VIX pushes back through 20, and most pullback entries never trigger, which is the design working.
Exogenous shock. The French OAT spread pushes through its early October high of 158.67bp into Friday's Moody's review, or Hormuz headlines (tankers, mines, IEA stock talk) keep Brent sustained above $111: rates and energy set the day regardless of the domestic tape.
| TIME (ET) | EVENT | CONS | PRIOR |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8:15 AM | ADP weekly employment change | n/a in this morning's sources | |
| 8:30 AM | Housing starts (Sep) | 1.305M to 1.31M | 1.275M (Aug) |

| 10:00 AM | Pending home sales (Sep) | -0.7% to flat (surveys differ) | +0.3% |
| All week | FOMC blackout: no Fed speakers ahead of the Oct 27-28 meeting |
Consensus figures that differ by survey are printed as a labeled range, per desk practice. Yesterday's housing read set the tone: the NAHB index fell 3 points to 29, the lowest since June 2012, against consensus of 31 and a prior 32, with the 30-year mortgage at 7.40% (Reuters, Oct 19).
Earnings today: 3M, GM, GE Aerospace, RTX, Northrop Grumman and Halliburton before the open (3M, GM, GE and Northrop already reported, see Major News); Netflix, SpaceX, United Airlines, Capital One and Intuitive Surgical after the close (details in Earnings Minefield).
A narrow bounce, by the numbers. The S&P 500 rose 0.41% to 7,690.73 and the Nasdaq Composite 1.11% to 26,430.89 on Monday, while the Dow slipped 0.07% to 51,966.03 and the Russell 2000 added 0.25% to 2,728.30. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose 1.61%, ending an eight session losing streak (AI Trade Dashboard, Oct 20). Underneath, decliners outnumbered advancers on the Nasdaq and in the desk's own universe count (552 decliners to 345 advancers), and only three sector SPDRs closed green. One pricing note: a syndicated wrap printed the S&P up 0.66% to 7,709.63; the 0.41% close at 7,690.73 is confirmed by multiple dated sources and is the figure this desk uses.
Seoul rejects the bounce. Asia sold the chip complex overnight: the KOSPI fell 3.73% to 5,553, with Samsung down 3.2% and SK hynix down 4.7%; the Nikkei lost 1.3% to 64,075, a one month low, with SoftBank down 6% as its CDS hit a four year high; the Hang Seng fell about 1% on its return from Monday's holiday and Shanghai was close to flat. Foreigners had net sold KRW 605.8B in Seoul by 10:30 AM local time (AI Trade Dashboard, Oct 20). US premarket echoed it: Micron down 2.6%, CoreWeave down 2.8% and Nebius down 3.2% in the morning roundups.
France: the spread is the story. The French 10-year OAT yield rose 3bp to 4.96%, near its highest since 2002, and the spread over Bunds widened 5.5bp to 152.5bp (Reuters, Oct 20), after closing Monday at 147bp, the widest close since the 2012 debt crisis. New demonstrations are planned for Saturday, the National Assembly votes on the revenue side of the 2027 budget today, and Moody's reviews France's Aa3 (negative) on Friday.
Oil and Hormuz. Brent traded above $111 a barrel this morning (intraday range about $109.00 to $111.75) after Iran's IRGC said two tankers struck naval mines on the Strait of Hormuz's southern route; the IEA's Birol said the agency will consider releasing more emergency stocks if needed. WTI topped $100 intraday after closing Monday at $98.41. Monday's sanctions relief dip did not survive contact with the shipping headlines.
This morning's earnings: beats, with one guide that missed. 3M: adjusted EPS $2.50 vs $2.39 consensus, sales $6.6B in line, full-year adjusted EPS guidance raised to $9.10 to $9.15 (company release). GM: adjusted EPS $3.70 vs $3.63 expected, revenue $50.0B up 2.9%, but the tightened full-year EPS range of $12.75 to $13.75 has a midpoint below the $13.41 consensus; the stock fell about 4% premarket, and the board approved a new $20B buyback (Reuters). GE Aerospace raised its full-year adjusted EPS outlook to $8.00 to $8.10 from $7.65 to $7.85, and Northrop Grumman beat with EPS of $7.89 vs $7.18 expected and raised its EPS guide to $29.35 to $29.75 (Investor's Business Daily).
AI credit: one day of relief, on the record. JPMorgan said large US bank exposure to CoreWeave is about $1B to $3B and well secured, with about $24B of committed delayed-draw term loans ($15B drawn, $9B undrawn) across the complex (Reuters, Oct 20). Goldman Sachs upgraded CoreWeave on Oct 19 citing tight computing capacity. CoreWeave's 2031 notes eased to a 15.13% yield on Oct 19, down 19.5bp, after touching about 16% last week; the stock still closed Monday at $61.12, down 0.44%. Separately, Reuters reported OpenAI is accelerating a roughly $30B raise at a valuation above $1.4T to secure commitments ahead of Anthropic's expected mid November IPO.

Desk-computed from the scanner's price cache, the same series started in Monday's issue (Oct 16: 411 advancers, 38.78% above the 50-day). The index rose and participation did not: the above-50-day share slipped 0.6 points on an up day. The separate swing-desk breadth snapshot in this morning's 8:00 AM report (23% above the 50-day, 321 highs vs 1,183 lows on its own wider universe) points the same way and is not blended with this series, because the universes differ. Put/call and new-high/new-low counts for the full market had no dated verifiable source this morning and are omitted rather than estimated.

| GAINERS | DAY | WHY |
|---|---|---|
| CLF Cleveland-Cliffs | +16.34% | The day's standout, on its Monday pre-open report; verified results detail was not in hand for this table and is not printed |
| RMBS Rambus | +6.20% | Memory-adjacent semis joined the SOX bounce |
| WDC Western Digital | +6.09% | Memory bounce ahead of its Thu Oct 22 report; still 27.0 RSI on the desk's Wilder read, deeply oversold |
| SLGN Silgan Holdings | +5.98% | Packaging; no company catalyst verified in this morning's sources |
| ANF Abercrombie & Fitch | +5.71% | Retail strength inside discretionary's leading day |
Just outside: TTMI (TTM Technologies) +5.56%. Note what is not here: Monday's index bounce was led by mega-caps (AMZN +4.98%, PLTR +4.36%, TSLA +3.76%), not by broad small-name participation.
| LOSERS | DAY | WHY |
|---|---|---|
| RBA RB Global | -5.33% | Second heavy down day in the name; no company catalyst verified this morning |
| WHR Whirlpool | -5.13% | Housing complex sold with builder sentiment at a 14-year low (NAHB 29) |
| EHC Encompass Health | -4.82% | Health care lagged despite its defensive bid last week |
| MOS Mosaic | -4.78% | Fertilizer name sold; materials still finished the day fractionally green as a sector |
| NRG NRG Energy | -4.21% | Utilities were the worst sector SPDR (-2.01%) as yields rose |
Just outside: AMP (Ameriprise) -4.07%, with financials down 0.83% as a sector. The losers list is idiosyncratic, not thematic: five different industries, no single complex dominating the way energy dominated Friday's gainers.

Closes, moving averages and RSI (Wilder) desk-computed from the scanner cache (Oct 19 bars); BB is not in the scanner cache, so its close and averages are Yahoo Finance closes pulled this morning and its RSI is printed n/a rather than mixed into the cache series. Monday's tells: AMZN reclaimed its 50-day on the group's best day (+4.98% on a Morgan Stanley top pick), GOOGL closed $0.20 under its 50-day after Friday's slip under the 200-day reversed, and AAPL was the board's only red name, a -0.15% pause that left the live setup (below) inside its entry zone.
| INDEX | LAST | SUPPORT | RESISTANCE | THE READ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S&P 500 | 7,690.73 | 7,659.44 (Friday's close), then 7,600 | 7,705 area (50-day), then 7,731 (week high) and the 7,818.93 record | Monday closed 15 points under the 50-day area. A close above 7,705 to 7,710 starts the repair; a close back under Friday's 7,659 says the bounce was a one-day short cover. |
| SPY | $766.48 | $763.25 (Friday's close) | $768.04 (50-day), then $769 to $770, the lost pin | SPY sits between its Friday close and its 50-day. The pin zone above and the 50-day are the same fight. |
| QQQ | $718.36 | $709.80 (Friday's close) | 50-day area $725 to $727 | QQQ bounced 1.21% and still closed $7 under the low end of its 50-day area. Seoul's overnight chip selling is the first test of whether Monday's semi bounce travels. |
| 10-yr yield | 5.14% to 5.15% Mon close, ~5.12% Tue morning | 2-yr 4.77% (Mon); 2s10s about +38 bp | Yields rose into the equity bounce, which is the uncomfortable part: the bounce was not a rates story. A close above 5.20% reopens the rates problem. | |

SPDR closes (Yahoo Finance, pulled this morning by the desk): only 3 of 11 sectors rose Monday. The day's leadership (discretionary, tech) is the bounce; the week's and month's leadership (staples, energy, health care) is the regime. Both statements are true, and the second one is the position.
Four ranked longs from this morning's 8:00 AM swing report. Its published levels were not in hand at this desk, so the entry zones, stops and targets below are desk levels set off the Oct 19 close and the names' own support and resistance, labeled as such; the theses are the swing report's. The three live Oct 15 setups (CVX, AAPL, MPC) are carried in the Scoreboard.
Reported this morning: adjusted EPS $2.50 vs $2.39 consensus, sales $6.6B in line, full-year adjusted EPS guidance raised to $9.10 to $9.15. The swing report's top setup is to buy the post-earnings strength, not chase a gap: the zone runs from Monday's $162.01 close up to the 20-day average at $164.82, the stop sits under the 10-session low of $159.21, and T1 is the 10-session high. The name closed Monday under both its 20-day and 50-day ($169.87) averages, so this is a repair trade against a raised guide, sized accordingly. Invalidation: close below $159.00
Closed Monday at $54.12, exactly its 52-week high (Yahoo Finance closes), up 7.17% over five sessions and 9.02% over one month, with Brent back above $111 this morning as the tailwind and the risk. The zone buys the breakout shelf on any pullback toward it; the stop sits just under the 50-day average at $49.44. CNQ is not in the scanner's S&P 500 plus MidCap 400 cache, so its prints here are Yahoo Finance closes pulled this morning, labeled as such. Invalidation: close below $49.40
The swing report's read, and the desk's numbers agree: Visa closed Monday at $402.92, just under its 10-session high of $404.74, with a Wilder RSI of 73.8. That is overbought at the highs, so the setup is a pullback to support, not a chase: the zone is the first shelf under the close, the stop keeps the 20-day average ($376.37) as the deeper line, and T1 is the high it has to clear. Invalidation: close below $382.00
A defensive breakout in the sector the regime favors: McKesson closed Monday at $1,010.43, just under its 10-session high of $1,014.99, with health care up 4.31% over one month. RSI is hot at 76.5 (Wilder), so like Visa this is a pullback entry into strength, not a chase at the high: zone first, stop under the breakout shelf, T1 at the high. Invalidation: close below $950.00
From the Monday, October 19 close: the scanner qualified 15 signals across its 899-name liquid universe (14 momentum pullbacks, 1 gap up and hold) and the top 10 print here, ranked by pattern factor times reward-to-risk. No padding: the cap is 10 and the sheet earned all 10. One housekeeping flag the desk will not hide: GOOG and GOOGL are two share classes of one company and hold two of the top three slots, because v1 of the scanner has no share-class dedup rule. The sheet prints what the engine emitted; whether to collapse duplicate classes to the more liquid line is an open call for the publisher, noted here until it is made.
RSI 47, on the MA20 ($342.38) inside an uptrend, 4.2% under the 10-day high. Pullback to the rising 20-day area inside an intact uptrend. Resolves against these levels over the next 10 sessions in the public ledger. Invalidation: close below $332.11
RSI 56, on the MA20 ($170.95) inside an uptrend, 4.3% under the 10-day high. Pullback to the rising 20-day area inside an intact uptrend. Resolves against these levels over the next 10 sessions in the public ledger. Invalidation: close below $165.82
RSI 48, on the MA20 ($345.87) inside an uptrend, 4.2% under the 10-day high. Pullback to the rising 20-day area inside an intact uptrend. Resolves against these levels over the next 10 sessions in the public ledger. Invalidation: close below $335.50
Gap up and hold: gapped +8.3% on 5.3x volume 2026-10-15, held two sessions. The gap's support shelf is the stop; the pattern pays only while the shelf holds. Resolves against these levels over the next 10 sessions in the public ledger. Invalidation: close below $204.19
RSI 51, on the MA20 ($249.15) inside an uptrend, 3.2% under the 10-day high. Pullback to the rising 20-day area inside an intact uptrend. Resolves against these levels over the next 10 sessions in the public ledger. Invalidation: close below $241.68
RSI 54, on the MA20 ($376.54) inside an uptrend, 3.8% under the 10-day high. Pullback to the rising 20-day area inside an intact uptrend. Resolves against these levels over the next 10 sessions in the public ledger. Invalidation: close below $365.25
RSI 54, on the MA20 ($433.76) inside an uptrend, 4.5% under the 10-day high. Pullback to the rising 20-day area inside an intact uptrend. Resolves against these levels over the next 10 sessions in the public ledger. Invalidation: close below $420.75
RSI 52, on the MA20 ($52.94) inside an uptrend, 3.7% under the 10-day high. Pullback to the rising 20-day area inside an intact uptrend. Resolves against these levels over the next 10 sessions in the public ledger. Invalidation: close below $51.35
RSI 54, on the MA20 ($127.42) inside an uptrend, 4.0% under the 10-day high. Pullback to the rising 20-day area inside an intact uptrend. Resolves against these levels over the next 10 sessions in the public ledger. Invalidation: close below $123.60
RSI 54, on the MA20 ($460.99) inside an uptrend, 3.9% under the 10-day high. Pullback to the rising 20-day area inside an intact uptrend. Resolves against these levels over the next 10 sessions in the public ledger. Invalidation: close below $447.16
Method, in the open: pattern factors today are the archive win rates (momentum pullback 55.6% from 1,185 resolved signals; gap up and hold 62.4% from 101), held as Bayesian priors capped at 120 pseudo-signals. Each signal resolves win, loss or expired against its own printed stop and target within 10 sessions, first touch, stop checked first within a day; expired counts as no win. As of this morning the new ledger has 0 live resolutions, so the factors have not moved; the learner folded 0 outcomes today. The remaining 5 qualifiers below the cap: IQV, MEDP, CRBG, FAST, IEX (in the scanner's run file, not printed as signals).
| FIRM | TICKER | ACTION |
|---|---|---|
| Goldman Sachs (Mon) | CRWV | Upgrade to buy, citing tight computing capacity (via AI Trade Dashboard, Oct 20) |
| JPMorgan (Tue) | CRWV | Overweight kept, $125 target in the morning roundups; bank exposure called limited and well collateralised (Reuters) |
| Morgan Stanley (Mon) | AMZN | Named a top pick; AMZN closed +4.98%, the Mag 7's best day |
| KeyCorp (Mon) | GOOGL | Target cut $435 to $410, overweight kept |
| BMO Capital (Mon) | O | Realty Income target cut $66 to $61 |
| Stifel (Mon) | PH | Parker-Hannifin target cut $1,075 to $1,002, hold kept |
| Stephens (Mon) | PNC | Target cut $265 to $250, overweight kept |
| Morgan Stanley (Mon) | TDG | TransDigm target cut $1,400 to $1,300, equal weight kept |
| JLPascual (Fri report) | ASML | Downgrade to sell, $749 target |
The pattern is the regime in miniature: one upgrade of consequence, and it is a credit-complex name (CRWV) backed by a capacity argument, against a shelf of target cuts that keep their ratings. The Street is trimming prices, not abandoning names.
| NAME | WHY IT IS ONLY A WATCH |
|---|---|
| Memory (MU, SNDK, WDC) | Bounced Monday (MU +2.97%, SNDK +5.53%, WDC +6.09%) with Wilder RSIs of 38.4, 36.2 and 34.3, then Seoul sold the complex again overnight and MU was -2.6% premarket. Oversold is a condition, not an entry; WDC reports Thursday. |
| NFLX $69.85 | Reports tonight with the options market pricing a 9.57% move and the stock down about 25% year to date. An earnings coin flip is not a setup. |
| CRWV $61.12 | A Goldman upgrade and a JPMorgan all-clear on bank exposure, against a 15.13% yield on its 2031 notes and a record CDS print. Credit still leads the stock. |
| VEEV $316.80 | +2.08% Monday to just under its 10-session high of $319.95, RSI 73.8. Strength, but the swing report is right to leave it a watch at the highs. |
| GE $311.28 | Reported this morning and raised its EPS outlook to $8.00 to $8.10; early trading had it lower (Investor's Business Daily). A raised guide with a falling stock is a watch until the session sorts it. |
| GM $82.75 | Beat on EPS ($3.70 vs $3.63) and announced a $20B buyback, but the guide midpoint missed and the stock fell about 4% premarket. The market is pricing the guide, not the beat. |
| HAL $32.98 | Reports before today's open with oil above $111 intraday; the print and the commodity are the same trade this morning. |
| NAME | DATE | NOTE |
|---|---|---|
| MMM, GM, GE, RTX, NOC, HAL | Today, before open | MMM, GM, GE and NOC reported by press time (see Major News). HAL's verified results were not in hand at publish and are not printed. |
| NFLX Netflix | Today, after close | Consensus EPS $0.82, revenue $12.87B to $12.88B; options imply a 9.57% move (TipRanks). Company guide matches consensus closely, so the outlook is the print. |
| SPCX SpaceX | Today, after close | Second post-IPO report; consensus EPS $0.16, Oct 19 close $147.96, market value about $2.01T (Robinhood calendar via AIStockWire). AI spending is the focus. |
| UAL, COF, ISRG | Today, after close | Airlines, consumer credit and medtech round out tonight's slate. |
| META, TSLA | Wed Oct 21, after close | The week's main event. META consensus sits in a $5.89 to $6.76 EPS range across surveys (revenue about $63.3B to $63.4B), printed as a range because the surveys genuinely differ; TSLA consensus EPS $0.40 to $0.41, revenue about $27.62B. Also Wed: IBM, Lam Research, Texas Instruments. |
| PG, LMT, CMCSA, HON, WDC | Thu Oct 22 | WDC is the memory read (consensus revenue $4.14B, EPS $4.08, Koyfin via Stocktwits). Plus jobless claims (prior 199k, consensus about 200k). |
| AXP, SLB | Fri Oct 23 | Plus flash PMIs, Michigan sentiment final (consensus 46.3 in desk records) and the Moody's review of France. |
The live desk ledger (published Oct 15). All three triggered setups survived Monday, stops and targets unchanged: CVX closed $224.37 (high $225.67, low $223.12), above its entry zone with T1 at $229 about 2% away. AAPL closed $342.94 (low $340.11), back inside its $342.50 to $344.00 entry zone and the only red name in Ticker Trends. MPC was the day's drama: high $493.69, within 1.3% of its $500 T1, then a close at $473.69, under the $478 to $482 entry zone but $4.69 above its $469 stop on the low ($470.68). Expired unfilled: 1 (GILD, targets surpassed without a fill; an unfilled target is not a win).
The scanner ledger. Oct 16 sheet: 6 signals, one session elapsed, 0 resolved (none has touched its printed stop or target). Oct 19 sheet: 15 signals emitted, top 10 published in this issue, all open. Totals for the new ledger: 21 scanner signals open, 0 resolved, learner outcomes folded today: 0. Pattern factors therefore stand at their archive priors, printed on every signal card.
Pattern Weather. Fifteen qualifiers and fourteen of them are the same pattern, momentum pullback, with one gap up and hold and no breakouts or cup and handles at all. That menu is the regime in one line: intact uptrends are offering pullbacks to buy, nothing is breaking out, and breadth (38.18% above the 50-day) agrees. A menu that shifts toward breakouts would be the risk-on tell; a menu that empties would be the stand-down tell.
Two old ledgers, printed side by side, never blended. The legacy product page tracked 663 patterns (651 resolved) at a 61.9% win rate and +0.08R expectancy under its per-setup yardstick (audit Oct 2). The complete signal export received since (Oct 17) covers 3,494 signals, of which 1,903 are closed: win rate 52.3%, expectancy +0.106% per signal, profit factor 1.07, average hold 2.9 days, under the archive evaluator's rules. The export is the fuller record and supersedes the page figures for the old system. This page keeps one ledger, in public, from Oct 15 forward; the Saturday Ledger resolves the full week, every week.
